I have a new project coming my way and have a chance to pick up a 260 motor basically complete with the 5 bolt cruise-o-matic tranny. My question is will a 69 302 intake, cam, hydraulics, blah blah blah work for this 260? I am more so interested in knowing if the intake would work as i have an original iron intake with working/clean carburetor that would be nice to have. ~ Thanks in Advance.

Why do you want to go with a smaller engine?...didn't know Ford made a 260...

You can find a late model 5.0 roller block for 100-300....Why waste your time.

yes it will all fit but, IMO your taking a step back.. you should be shoving a roller 302 in there than that 260.. or were you just going to raid it for parts? either way its your car.. be careful with the corner intake bolts.. the 260 heads have no support at the edges and you can break off the ends of the manifold...

is your 302 on its last legs?

I have a new project coming my way

New project. My mustang is complete. I will not take a step back to a 260 as that is dumb. I have another project. A 260 is cheap and everyone has the 302 or 289 motor. I want different. I got myself a 32 rod. And no i dont want a flat head. Everyone has one of them too. Im doing something different on budget. And yes ford made a 260 in the early 60's. Comets and galaxies had them. Will a 302 manifold fit on top of the 260 tho? wont the 302 manifolds be stronger? Its cast Iron.

the 302 manifold will fit... you'll see what i'm talking about when you install it.. thats assuming the 260 heads are stil on that motor..

I'm more familiar with the big block Fords from that era. I do recall a 260 now I thought about it for a while. If your looking to do something on a budget....it sounds like you have a good start. Good luck!!!

Hmm ok. Sweet. Maybe if i ca find some 302 heads ill throw them on the 260. I have a bunch of left over parts from my 302 and want to use them on the 260 i just didnt know if they would bolt up.

So you wanna be different yet your throwing 302 stuff on a 260?

Why not put a 302 in it and say its a 260?

Because that would be lying. How many times have you seen real 260? Apparently some people didnt even know about them. I want a 260 numbers block.

Before the 302, before the 289. before the 260, was the 220. And if you know anything about Shelby and the Cobras (I mean the real ones) you would know that when Carol went to England where he was building cars for Le Mans he found the Ace/Bristol sports cars. Ford gave him two 220 cid v-8s to test fit in the cars. In 1963 the 220's were in Fairlanes and in the full size Ford sedans. Similar to the later sb 8's but many parts would not interchange because of dimension differences. Sooooooo pee wee if you want something unique find a 220. And there aint nutin wrong with flats, after all John Dillinger liked them.

When I got done with the post I notice a cubic inch laying in the floor, I correct myself before some one comes along and says, you idiot it was 221 cid motor. That 1 cid makes a hell of a lot of difference. Back to the beer, bye.

I had a 64 1/2 Mustang coupe in 1974 (bought of for $300). It had the 260 V-8 and I bolted a set of stock 289 heads, Edlebrock dual plane 4 barrel intake and a Autolite 4bbl carb. Ran well, no big difference until i
I put the 4.11 gears in it. That's how I learned about the the proper torque sequence on head bolts, by doing it wrong the first time.

just a thing to remember some early 260's have the motor mounts back farther then the 302's do
