Wheel I am taking the plunge.
My Street/Strip Car is Turning into a Strip/Street Car. LOL


Here is my setup from DTS Custom

1994-1998 spec 8.8 Housing with welded tubes.
9" Ends
GT Brake Brackets for 9" ends
31 Spline True Trac
31 Spline Moser Axles w/ 3" studs
3:73 Gears
Solid Pinion Shim
Cobra Pinion Flange
APR main cap studs
T/A rear cover.

No I have to decided on all the other misc stuff that goes with the swap.

Here's a Rear Disc setup that you can run with those 9" housing ends. It also still incorporates the emergency brake. It's the same kit I went with for my 88 and it only cost me $385. That's about $425 cheaper than what a Aerospace, Willwood, etc. setup will cost you.

Not required. North Race Cars now makes a bracket that allows you to use GT/Cobra calipers with GT rotors and clear 9" ends.

Well, these were $99 shipped to me from snoopstang on turbomustangs.com. He sells them and also posts on numerous sites under the same name.


BTW, you should of just had Rodeheaver's build you a rear. He did mine for under $1,700, which included the brakes.

I may go with the CHE brace.

From what I have read, yes. I'm not running tailpipes though, hell, I'm not even running a muffler. My 3-1/2" downpipe is just going to dump just behind the front passenger tire.

I also just saw in MM&FF I think a company that came out with an under axle brace setup.

Then you can kiss your tailpipes goodbye unless you have them upgrade your housing to a Chris Alston Chassis Works one that runs the anti-roll bar under the axle.

Miller Race Cars has on that works with stock pipes.
I believe Steeda has one also that mounts under.

Lou has a Steeda on his and I know he can't run tailpipes with it. They may of come out with a newer one since he put his on though.

bout time.

i know i want an anti-roll bar. i wish i could remember which one it was, but i remember there being one you can use on the street. so far as my suspension goes, thats one of the last things i need.....:biglaugh:

I am going to try the air bag and stagger the shock settings to see if it will go semi straight off the line.

If not then anti roll here I come.

If I 'had' to pick, that MRC setup looks good. The anti-roll bar will be much better to control your launch.

Definitely, don't forget to make room for that rear girdle. It blows trying to cave the spare tire well in, after installing the axle.

Yes I will have to do a little fabricating with a hammer.

By shorteneing up both the upper and lower control arms as much as possible after you get everything dialed in, you can minimized the amount of "tweaking" you have to do to the trunk floor. You can pull the entire rear end forward probably about an inch or maybe more. If you adjust all the arms equally, you can maintain the settings of pinion angle and axle offset.
This is one of the plusses of having both UCA & LCAs adjustable.

The air bag should work fine. Mine has been launching pretty straight even at the crappy track near here.

As far as the trunk I can use the Lou form LMM mustang method. On hard launch and the cover will machine the trunk to specs. LOL

I think I would have waited to see just how good or bad the launch was with the air bad before going with the Miller bar. But it sure will look pretty!!

My trunk was clearanced by using the hard launch method also. I didn't move the rear end forward until after the fact.

Just remember, put LockTite on everything except the caliper mounting bolts.

You wont need the anti roll bar until you get the car dead hooked where the Front left wheel is a foot off the ground before the right.

After the anti roll is adjusted and you are leaving straight, the 31 splines will want to be 35.

Looks like a nice set-up but why didn't you go with a spool?? They're really not that bad on the street.

I could always give a hand if you want. I don't know much but I can pull my own motor and replace it so I can turn a wrench.

Make sure you do not use any kind of synthetic with the true trac otherwise it will make noise. It will only make noise when you turn sharp but it is annoying as hell and hard to figure out.

All done minus the anti roll bar which I can tell I am going to need.

Ride is not that bad. I have spherical bushings on all points except the forward lowers are delrum. Just cruising around I can't hear anything that bothers me. In a tight turn on an uneven surface or a big dip in the road I hear some a pop sound at times, but I expected that with the hardcore control arm setup.

The steeda weight jackers control arms are the cats meow. The adjustable ride height feature is great.

The battle boxes are from Lou at Laural Mountain Mustang and they went in really easy. You have to open the lower torque box a little other than that just drill away. Oh yea a foot long 3/8" and 1/2" inch drill bit makes the job easy.

Oh yea 1 more thing. There is no more wheel hop.:highfive:

I had something similar from Wild Rides. No need to weld them in, but it wouldn't hurt.

Jeff, did you paint those parts silver? You always have to cut the '94-'04 lower torque box openings to get those parts in. Doesn't look like you 'clearanced' the spare tire well. That pop is probably from a slight binding-up of the control arms or just a little movement. Don't get me wrong, the install looks good. Just trying to help. Can't wait to see how it runs.

If the axle isn't installed in the car, use the good ol' BFH. You can use the same technique, but hitting the axle cover is much more liable to be damaged. If not clearanced, the rear axle girdle will make it's own room.

I didn't yet. It is pretty flimsy metal so I will just tap it with a ball pien hammer some day. There is still a good bit or room when the car is on jack stands to get in there with a hammer.

Good deal. It's better than listening to the rear axle girdle slamming into it. I had that happen on my old Stang. Left a nice impression of the T/A Girdle in the metal. I thought that it might have broken something, but those girdles are tough!

Yes that is a plus. I never really had much hop on the IRS unless it was really cold out.

Does not look to hard to install maybe 30 minutes with a little welding required.
