Torco 108 Purchase at Firebird.

I put 5 gallons of Torco 108 Unleaded in my empty tank last night at Firebird. Did two runs.

I noticed some detonation on the drive home on the 23 degree race tune?

I just hope the car was not detonating down the track.

My octane requirement for 20 PSI with 23 Degrees would be safe with 100 octane. Very Safe with 108.

I placed the 16 degree tune back in and the detonation is gone.

This is obviously a fuel quality problem.

I never had any issues with VP 109.

I will only be using VP race fuels in the future.

No Bueno. I didn't see a VP fuels sign up at firebird last night, but I noticed the torco immediately. Is torco the new fuel company for the track?

I believe so.

I had problems the other weekend I broke. Took me forever to find it as well. Then I had him pump in 5 gallons and noticed the gas gauge didn't really move. I figured I would give it time to see if it registers, made a shake down pass on the motor and still nothing. Went back to the race gas trailer and the guy checked and he was pumping air. He then filled up a jug for me to make sure and put it in the car.

It turned out fine, but what if I hadn't noticed, and ran the car on the bottle with low fuel and pump gas to boot. She definitely coulda went boom!

That's the third time, I've heard a complaint about Torco Fuels/N.S., Mike.:pinkthumb:

Does PSR sell VP 109?

As of now PSR isn't carrying race gas. Jeff just do like Tony and I did, buy a 55 gallon drum and throw it in the garage. We went in halfers on a drum of Sunoco 109.

I heard Torco was going out of business. I always run Sonoco 100 in mine from Loves with a bit of 91 pump. I wonder if there is an easy way to test the octane level of the fuel? I have always been curious about that, never really looked into it though.

I have a test. Step on the gas and if it pings the gas sucks.

Actually I'm not sure what the place is called it's at like Broadway and 19th Ave., Shane took me over there to pick it up. I know Western States Petroleum sells VP 109 for like $525 a drum.

Update.
I got 10 gallons on VP 109 and there is zero detonation.
The fuel I got from Firebird was either contaminated or not 108 octane.

I stopped by Western States Petroleum. They sell 5 gallon pails. Was painless and I know I am getting unopened fuel direct from VP.
