Found a HID kit that I like, but undecided to go with the 35 watt or 55. Any suggestions , from those that have installed hid kits ? And/or install tips ??

i have done all 35w kits in my 3 vehicles, and they have been such an amazing improvement over the factory bulbs, and even silverstars. i would stick with a 5k or 6k bulb though. if i can help anymore, please let me know. done about 10-12 installs...

More info! I'm sick of not being able to see at night! The factory headlights in these cars are horrible. I agree !! I ordered my SVT Focus with HID"S and absolutely loved 'em ! When I got my 06 Stang the lights were so yellow and dim i thought there was a battery/alternator problem. Had to wait even to pu in Silverstars ,as they had not come out with the new bulb yet. So now going to go ahead with a HID kit. Most likely the 35w with a 6k bulb . :pepper:

Tony what brand did you go with and where did you get it from? Do you recommend the 35 then instead of the 55 and is it from brightness issues? I've been thinking about a set for the vehicles as well.

Thanks!

Tony, any idea how much the difference between the 35W and 55W kit is for light and or is the 35W kit more than a night and day difference on its own over stock and a 55W kit overkill?

the 35w kit is such a night and day difference, that you will be plenty happy. honestly, i have never used a 55w kit.

why spend so much? the kits i posted are 110... ;) Its more because of having a Hi & Low beam, the ones you are using are low beam only and a$80 increase to get a high/low ,which makes the kit actually more expensive than the one I'm getting.

ah. doh! missed that part, 4 dollars cheaper FTW! basically a bixenon kit is just a second set of ballasts for the high beams. i have never missed my high beams, so, not a worry i have had. plus its just more stuff to find a home. not sure how much room there is on the s-197 cars, but i would assume there is a little more do to the size of the car. :icon_cool:

I contacted Retro-Solutions http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/servlet/StoreFront to ask about what HID kits they would recommend for my 2006 Mustang GT, below is what they replied with:

Many Mustang owners have purchased our products, most purchase the 55w DIGITAL kits for their headlights (H13 bixenon) and the 35w DIGITAL kits for their fog lamps (9145). Your headlight covers will be fine, there is not heat damage associated with our kits, they run cooler than the bulbs they replace. So I would adjust your choices to be as follows:

High & Low Beams
55W H13 9008 DIGITAL BIXENON / SKU: DIGI-55W-H13HL

Fog/Driving
35W 9145 DIGITAL HID KIT / SKU: DIGI-35W-9145

I put mine in from Retro, but the 35w. Glad I didn't get the 55's ,as the 35's are WAY bright.I can't imagine going brighter. They light up the highway signs, like seeing HD TV on a new flat screen compared to a 20yr old set. The "drunk bumps" light up like airport landing lights. Very happy with them, customer service is excellent!Like AZ Snake said, takes about 30min,even on the new Mustangs. If you're going to the pancake breakfast this Sunday, I'll show you the set up on mine.

Plan on being at the International CMC Garage of Pancakes breakfast on Sunday and will check your set up out. Was looking at 35W kits all the way around but leaning towards the 55W kit for the high/low beams because I have the smoked lense covers on my Stang so maybe the extra brightness will help out some... still contemplating
