Anyone have any suggestion for 16" rims for ET Streets?
I want correct backspacing.
Thanks

I gotta tell you my pony rims with 26 X 11.5 X 16" ET streets do the job for me and they are cheap. Got mine from some nerd in Pittsburgh for $200 rims and almost new tires. Bolt 'em on for the track and you're good to go. May not be the prettiest wheels in the world but you can't beat the price for the exact same performance.

I never thought of that. I am looking for a nerd now.

Burntire, I've got a pretty set of black steelies in a 16X8 that had ET Streets on them. They look like new and fit the car great with that size tire.

They have a 4 1/2" backspacing.

You can have them free... just come by and pick them up!

I can put up a pic in the Photo Gallery of the '01 running on them.

I know. You could probably go down and buy some for what it would cost to ship them over there. :icon_frown:

BurnTire

What did you pay for them new?
What rims did you upgrade to?

Brakelate

I think you can get them for around $50. Even Pep Boys carries them.

I was going to pass the love on to you, because I got them for free. I go through so many tires, that I've become the ultimate dragracing Hobo. I bum used take-offs from my pals and use them until I can see the air in them.

I really like to experiment with different combinations to see how they look and perform. If you look in my Gallery, you'll see I've run bias ply ET Streets on 15x10, 16x8, 17x8 and 17x9 wheels on my '01 Cobra.

I'm working on mooching a pair of the ET Street radial DR's. I'm thinking of trying them for my first outing with the "new" '03 on some factory satin wheels.

I'll post another pic in the gallery showing the behind the scenes shot one of my tire swap experiments.

But, I do owe Dave (P Machy) a big thanks for his extremely generous donations that keep me running at the track. :icon_wink:

Speaking of Dave.
I sent him a PM over at SCT asking him if he self banned himself over here. LOL

I just think he's been busy out modding the heck out of his new Terminator. We were pretty close until I threw down a challenge for a grudge match at an upcoming event at Famoso Raceway.
Since then, he's gone berzerk modding up his ride. :chair:

Problem is, he's also the official cameraman.

Perhaps we can figure out a decent in-car mount for him by then. Something that can capture my tail lights clearly from his point of view.

The heck with it, if you really want those wheels I can ship them over to you... couldn't be that bad for shipping.

BurnTire
08-29-06, 09:23 PM
It will be about 50 to 60 to ship them.
Where did you get them from?
I still have to check on the diamond racing wheels prices.

Brakelate
08-29-06, 09:28 PM
I wasn't kidding... I mooched them from PMachy.

They aren't that heavy once the tires are dismounted. I have boxes for them, can't be that much just for 300 miles or so.

I went looking at the online sources, and they want about $50 each for them. I was thinking they could get to you for maybe $30 if we didn't do anything super quick or fancy.

You ran the 26 x 11.5 x 16 Et Streets with no rub issues on the IRS bolts?

Brakelate
08-29-06, 09:44 PM
Yup. To be honest, I had shaved my IRS bolt, but that was to fit 315 BFG DR's on 10.5 wheels.

Running the ET Streets was never an issue regardless, because of the narrow rim. It also seems the bias-ply tires run a bit smaller than advertised.

For example, Tetge went out and got a pair of AFS 10.5 wide replica 17" wheels to mount some 11" wide ET Streets on, and the tires were waaay too narrow. Went back and mounted them on the factory 9"s and they were just about right. But, an 8" gives it just enough sidewall bubble and seems to put the whole contact patch on the ground evenly when aired down.

Are the pony rims 8 or 9 inches wide?

Brakelate
08-29-06, 10:47 PM
Factory Ford "Pony" wheels are 16x7. Those are typically 4-lug fox body wheels, so I'm not sure which wheel BoneCrusher is referring to.

As a general rule, the V-8 Fox body cars had 7" wide wheels, the early Cobra's and SN95 GT's had 8" wide wheels, and the Terminators had 9" wide wheels.

ohh so now you are giving away my set of rims? :bash:

J/K.

The rims that Jay is talking about are from summit. They are steel and not light... not sure what Jay be drinking... you can bet it isnt good for you.

hopefully that URL works.

cheap...but heavy.

P Machy

11.5 works...they bulge a bit more then a 10.5.

Anything under a 17" rim, a 9 or 10" rim would be better for 11.5 wide tires, but they still work well.

Careful with Diamond Racing Rims...not sure what happened with my friends set. The Joe Lynch Special was strange since the valve was inside the rim and made it a PITA to check tire pressure.

Seen others with the valve stem in the right location, go figure I guess...but they be some light rims. :beerchug:

BurnTire

No I am going to get a set that is a little wider.
8" seems a little to narrow with 26x11.5x16 ET Streets.

P Machy
08-30-06, 05:52 PM
you know, with ur whipple a 17" being taller then ur normal tire wont hurt you...IMHO.

that is if you already have a set of rims laying around...and you'd look stock doing it

BurnTire
08-30-06, 05:56 PM
I have a spare set of stock wheels, but the 17's are too tall IMO.
If I had gears I would use them.

P Machy
08-30-06, 07:36 PM
For me personally...it is a bit hard to judge.

I ran 2 sets of 15", 16" and then just settled for the 17" ET Street for the Mach1. The 60's were pretty much the same, but it only slowed me down by a few hundred...not tenths. Yes, it did hurt my rpm range as I would of preffered to be at 6200rpms VS 6000rpms that the other sized rims offered...ET Wise, it wasnt all that off.

As with the Terminator, the 17" my stock Termee went through the traps without getting into 4th where as with the stock tires, id bounced right off the limiter a few feet away from the finish line.

How much HP are you putting down and do you still have the stock gears?

Till now, my 112mph @ LACR with the 17" ET Street remains as fast as my DR's MPH....but the ET Street has the faster ET.

BurnTire
08-30-06, 07:42 PM
Still Running the stock 355 gears.
I will be putting down over 600 RWHP on the race tune.

P Machy
08-30-06, 07:59 PM
What do you assume in Trap Speeds?

130mph?

That would be perfect for you to hit it at 6200rpms through the traps.

17" ET Street, you should cross it at 5900 ~ 6000rpms.

BurnTire
08-30-06, 08:07 PM
High 120's to 130 is about right.

Well, is your tracks pretty close to Sea Level?

I dont think a few 100rpms will hurt you that bad...

Exactly. Then we can zoom out there.

I know it sounds appealing to PMachy, but that's just because he would like to be in front of my car for once... even if it is on a trailer!
