IF you don't drive the car on the street, Liberty and faceplating will be fine.

How much HP and at what rpm are you shifting?

420hp shift at 6000 having problem with wanting to go in between 3rd and 5th and then it wipes out 3rd gear and starts grinding would like to go to auto with brake want to start points racing and i do drive on street from time to time

A nice C-4 with a t-brake and a stall would be fun!

Mike's Transmissions in Cali is great. Dan is a dealer for ATI and PA
You're not to the level for a really big name converter, but Mike's converter guy reverse engineered a Neal Chance converter and it works outstanding.
I bet you could get itno a really nice and CONSISTANT C-4 for around $2400 that can run all season with just fluid changes. and a damn nice converter for roughly $800.
If you want, I can make some calls Monday and see what I can do.
That 420 is N/A or on the bottle?
If I had dyno sheets and an accurate weight, we can pretty much nail the converter on the first try.

If you want to have a tranny that doesn't need to be rebuilt after 30-50 runs then get a TH-400. A basic TH-400 with a brake costs about $1,400. After 250 runs you may need to go thru it. You can drive it on the street all day long.

The only downside is it takes more power to turn.

So if you are looking for the best ET then the C-4 may be the way to go if you don't mind pulling it to get freshened up.

If you are looking for a tranny that will low maintenance and good street manners then the Th-400 is the way to go.

I run a Rossler Terminator 3 TH-400. It has all the light weight internals.
I use a 10" converter from Ultimate Convert Concepts.

Mike's makes a good Th-400 also.

LOL!.........at 420rwhp.....A well built C-4 will last a LONG time, be quicker and a HELL of a lot lighter. I included LOTS of street driving when I made my first post.
A turbo 400 is WAAAAAAY overkill for a 331.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

its 420 n/a but would like to run nos its on the car just havnt used it need to change gears 4.30 to deep what gears would i need to go to with auto with 28in tire i also need a tune to get rid of rev limiter to run out at 6500

Sure it will if he never launches it on the brake. :hyper:

Why don't you put an 8.8 back in your car Bill?

It is lighter and takes less power to turn!

If you like to work on your car get a C-4.

What trap speed are you planning on having?

You don't need as much gear with an auto.

Why must you insist on being so trying?
How many seasons of following a racing circuit and also making other races between the circuit races have you done?
I had a MityMite2 C-4 that was built by Dynamic Transmissions that I ran for 2 1/2 seasons and NEVER took it down. EVERY single trip down the track was off the transbrake. I drove it on the street all the time to car meets and races in Mexico. ANd that was on a heavy ass car. He has a FOX!

I speak from DIRECT EXPERIENCE!!!!!!
Not my friends
Not from the internet.

LOL you spend more time on the internet than anyone I know.

I gave 331 the pros and cons of both trannys end of story. I have real experience with a TH-400.

Seems like you are too uptight.
Time to book your trip on

I laugh when people say a c4 is great for street driving.....I believe my buddy was at 3500 cruisin down the freeway last night.....got to love no overdrive.

I laugh when people say a c4 is great for street driving.....I believe my buddy was at 3500 cruisin down the freeway last night.....got to love no overdrive. Well it depends on your gears. I have a TH-400 with 3.73's and 28" drag radials and it isn't bad at all at 55-60.

He has 3.73 with with 26 tires.

I like when he tells me my 4.30 gears are too much for the street...yet he is at 3500 on the freeway and i'm at 2800.... T5 with overdrive of course for me

I dont know how you guys cope without overdrive....

What is your planned trap speed and shift RPM?

http://www.highperformancestangs.com/index.php?page=calc
The gear stuff is at the bottom.

If you are using a slick factor in some growth on the top end. They may have a .5" higher average 28.5"

The other factor in converter efficiency you will have some slip as the converter is not a true 1 to 1 coupling. I would plan for at least 5% when selecting a gear ratio.

looks like 4.30s are perfect if i get a tune and extend rev to 6500
i quess i need to get a hold of keith

Are you factoring in the No2?

What speed are you planning on trapping at?

Autos do not always need the low gears like a stick car due to the torque multiplication.

4.30s at 2500 RPMs on a 28" tire will give you 48mph. On a 26" 44MPH.

Just something to consider for street duty.

On the bottle, you're gonna need in the range of a 4.11 on the very high side and a 3.73 on the low.
That's if the converter is set up for the bottle.

Yeah........we can handle your needs for tuning with a chip. I'll give ya a HPS member discount and treat ya right.
I'll bet we can get your car to 11.50 pretty easy with 420 rwhp. Once you get the car ready for the track, all I charge for helping you dialing the car in at the track is pick me up, pay my entry and plenty of cold water and I'll work with you all night. That's what I do for PSR customers.:icon_cool::pinkthumb:
