My stepson has a 96 GT. We're looking for a used 3.73 posi to install. Does anyone know for sure what model years will bolt in. Also will the rear ends from any other models (t-birds, exployer, etc.) bolt in without modification? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Are you looking to put in the entire rear end housing or just install Gears?

GTs all have a traction lock (Posi). So if the car is only spinning single wheel it just needs a clutch pack rebuild.

if your looking for gears with the posi they are always on criagslist. any year 8.8 will work even if its was from 1980.

An 8.8 isn't like a 9". You can't just bolt in a set of gears with a posi.
The gears needs to be installed. He already has a posi unit.

Hmmm ok. i was told wrong then. I thought you could just unbolt an 8.8 and change the gears and posi like a 9". i was told that was the improvement from an 8" to an 8.8"

8.8's don't have a 3rd member like a 9".

It would be best for him to get a new set of gears, install kit, and put a new clutch pack in the differential.

i happen to have a 28 spline truetrac diff that i would let go for a very good price. its brand new and unused.
