Introduced during 2002 as a 2003 model, the SVT Cobra took modern Mustang horsepower to all-new heights with the move to a new, Eaton supercharged DOHC 4.6-liter ?Terminator? V8. The revamped '03 Cobra came to market rated at 390 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque ? among the most powerful Mustangs ever to leave the assembly line. It also featured a standard 6-speed gearbox, redesigned front and rear fascias, new ?heat-extraction? hood, special rocker moldings and side scoops, and several new interior appointments. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds and a blazing 12.7-second quarter-mile, the 2003 SVT Cobra became Ford's new benchmark performance vehicle. To help celebrate its 10-year Anniversary, SVT offered a 10th Anniversary Special Edition package on the Cobra Coupe or Convertible. It featured unique 17x9-inch Dark Argent painted alloy wheels, red-painted brake calipers, special interior trim, red leather seating surfaces in the front and rear, and ?SVT 10th Anniversary? badges on the floor mats and rear decklid. Available in Torch Red, Black Clearcoat or Silver Metallic, production was limited to a total of 2,003 units.

On the heels of the best-selling Mustang Cobra of all time (SVT produced more than 13,000 Cobras for the '03 model year), the 2004 SVT Cobra bolstered its appeal in the marketplace with two new exterior paint colors, Screaming Yellow and Competition Orange, plus a limited-edition (1,010-unit run) Mystichrome Appearance Package. The Cobra's supercharged 390-horsepower V8, six-speed manual transmission and independent rear suspension all remained standard. While some Mustang enthusiasts found the '04 version desirable because it is the final SN-95-based Cobra to be built in Mustang's Dearborn (MI) birthplace, there's little doubt the 2003-04 SVT Cobra's main attraction is rooted in the fact that it remains the quickest, highest-performing factory built Mustang that Ford has ever made.
