    Rules at the track

I want to see what I run in the 1/4 mile. What is the general rule for racing at the track with a convertable? I heard someone once say if you have a car under 14 sec you have to wear a helmet or have a roll cage?

Somehow I am not diggin' the roll cage in the vert.

The official rules for these are:

A convertible running between 13.49 must have a roll bar.

Any car/truck runnin 13.99 or quicker must have Snell 95 or newer helmet.

So an 03' Cobra vert needs a roll bar? UGH! that stinks. Maybe they will let me get away with one run. I have a light bar. Wonder if that will count? LOL

It does not matter if it's an 03 Cobra or an 03 VW; it applies to all verts. Your light bar will not count. If tech is doing their job, it will have to be an approved 6-point roll bar but you may get away with it for 1 run.

It really depends on how strict the tech at your track is. I have run my 03 Cobra Vert and gone 12.2 with no roll bar and no one even checked that I wasn't wearing a helmet either. chances are you should be fint till you get near the 10's, then you may start to get hasseled about it.

Sweet. I am going to try to get to a local track in a couple of weeks to get my first timeslip!!! I have never ran the 1/4 before, but I never had a real fast car before either. I want to see how much my time changes as I mod him.

Any tips for the first time track guy? I am not worried about starting off so much as I am about burning out to "warm" my tires? With the IRS I have I don't want to break anything with the stupid wheel hop I have. I don't want to tear up my brake system doing a stand either. Do I need to burn out?

Burn out for sure. If you running street tires, you'll have to ride the clutch out. Don't try to dump it cause you will shake the teeth out of you mouth from the wheelhop. Been there before.

Thanks for the compliment on the car. Know anyone looking to buy one?

No I don't know anyone right off hand. If you give me the details I'll ask around. I am all the way down here in GA. But I'll see anyway. The 03-04 Cobra's are rare. I have only seen 3 of the same model as mine in the past 6 months and I live right outside of Atlanta.

Gimme' some details and I'll try to help you out.

If it starts hopping get off the gas.
I would call the track and see how strict they are on the rules.
